WeFunkRadio – Straight Outa Montreal, serving all your Hip-Hop & Soul Needs

by Lee Gonnella on September 12, 2012

There’s seemingly more on-line radio stations than listeners, and with volume like that, it can be difficult to find something good without changing stations a dozen times.   And then there’s WeFunk, aka wefunkradio.com, a 2 man radio show broadcast out of Montreal, at McGill University. The show is live every Friday night from  midnite  to 2AM (Eastern), hosted by Professor Groove and DJ Static.  These guys have one of the best radio shows I’ve ever heard……soul, funk, hip-hop & rap, this is their realm, and their tastes stretch from obscure 60’s Motown to what just came out last week. The show started in 1996, and the 700+ shows they’ve done are all banked and ready for listening at anytime, as well as being streamed 24/7. You can also search the archives for artists or songs you like and make playlists.  And it’s all free.

They run a tight show, alternating soul & funk sets with hip-hop.  The only time you hear the DJs  talk  is once briefly in the show intro,  and then once later in the show, over some appropriate beats,  where they talk music, make announcements, and do occasional interviews.  .  These guys  know everything about what they’re playing.  The one thing they don’t play is ads…..it’s all music, baby.

And here’s Baby Huey, another WeFunk favorite, doing “California Dreaming” from The Baby Huey Story.

You can listen at  wefunkradio.com and on iTunes radio on the Hip-Hop & Rap tab.

As you were…
