Drive It ToThe Moon’s Holiday Music Kick-off

by Lee Gonnella on November 28, 2012

I love Holiday music!  Love it!  I’ve been collecting it for years, and now that Thanksgiving has “come and gone”……it’s time to begin the “Drive It To The Moon Holiday Music Drive”………todays’s theme……FAVORITES

This is one of my more recent favorites.  The beginning reminds me of the 3-Dog Night hit, “Shambala“.  Here’s one of the great Portland bands, The Decemberists, singing “Angel Won’t You Call Me”, video courtesy of alyiswriting.

Not only is this Pogues song one of the best Christmas songs of all time, it’s a fantastic video.  I saw them sing this at the Fillmore a few years ago and it brought the house down!

Some of the best Christmas songs are about distance, and covering that distance to be with the ones we love.  Usually we make it, if not by Christmas, then by New Year’s Eve.  Here’s The Pretenders singing about just such an occasion….

This next song was the first Christmas record I ever bought.  Today I listened to over 10 versions of this song,  from the  Chuck Berry original, all the way to a metal version with Lemmy, Billy Gibbons, & Dave Grohl.  Dave Edmunds, Lynyrd Skynyrd, & Lonesome Dave from Foghat all came close, but nothing topped this one.  There’s just something about Keith playing Chuck Berry songs…..

Hope you enjoyed these favorites, hopefully they put some holiday cheer into your day.  Stay tuned for lots more Christmas songs, Chanukkah songs, and music for December….
